Tomato Biryani with Onion Raitha/Thakkali Biryani/Tomato Biryani in Pressure cooker

Tomato Biryani

Tomato Biryani is a unique biryani compared to other traditional biryani recipes. Even though we don't add any vegetables other than Tomatoes and Onions, it tastes very yummy. Simple to make Biryani recipe yet tasty. Now let's get started with the recipe.


Serves-5

Cooking time-15 mins

Adjust the Ingredients according to the number of persons you cook for.

Ingredients

Oil-2 tbsp
Ghee-1 tbsp
Cardomom-1
Cinnamon-2
Bay leaf-2
Fennel seeds-1 tsp
Star anise-2
Onion-4(thinly sliced)
Tomato-10(sliced)
Coriander leaves-1 cup
Mint leaves-1 cup
Ginger garlic paste-2 spoons
Turmeric powder-1 tsp
Garam masala-1 tsp
Chilli powder-2 spoons
Coriander powder-3 spoons
Rock salt-2 1/2 spoons
Basmathi rice-2 1/2 cups
Water-4 cups

Recipe
 
Place the Pressure cooker on the gas stove, add 2 tbsp oil and 1 tbsp ghee. When the oil gets heated, add the whole spices one by one and saute well. Add 4 onions(thinly sliced) and saute till golden brown. Add 2 spoons of ginger garlic paste, 1 cup of coriander leaves and mint leaves and mix well. Now add 10 tomatoes(sliced) and saute well. When the tomatoes become mushy add 1 tsp of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of garam masala, 2 spoons of chilli powder, 3 spoons of coriander powder and mix well. Add 2 1/2 spoons of rock salt and mix well. Now add 4 cups of water and bring it to boil.

For 1 cup of Basmathi rice we add 1 1/2 cups of water.

When the water starts boiling add 2 1/2 cups of basmathi rice(washed and soaked for 20 mins) and mix gently. Close the lid and pressure cook for 2 whistles. After the pressure is released open the cooker and mix it gently. Transfer to a serving plate.

Onion Raitha 

Ingredients

Curd-1 cup
Green chilli-1(finely chopped)
Onion-2(finely chopped)
Tomato-1(finely chopped)
Salt-1 tsp

Recipe

Take 1 cup of Curd in a bowl and beat well. Add 2 Onions(finely chopped), 1 green chilli(finely chopped), 1 Tomato(finely chopped) and mix well. Add 1 tsp of salt and mix all the ingredients. Serve it with Tomato Biryani.
